2025 UIL ONE-ACT PLAY CLINIC
With Clinician, Billy Dragoo

​Billy Dragoo has been teaching theatre arts in Texas public schools for thirty-five years.  He has a BFA from The University of Texas and an MA from The University of London.  Awards and honors include:  Texas Thespians Hall of Fame Award (2016), Texas Educational Theatre Association’s K-12 Theatre Ed-ucator of the Year (2014); Educational Theatre Association’s Inspirational Theatre Educator of the Year (2013); three-time Austin High School Teacher of the Year (2012, 2003, & 1997); UIL Sponsor Excel-lence Award (2012); English Speaking Union International Globe Center Scholarship (2002); Rotary Foundation Scholarship for International Study (1989).  Eleven times he has directed students to the State Finals of the UIL One-Act Play Contest, finishing as 5A State Champion in 2012, 2011, and 2009, 5A 1st Runner-up in 2017 and 2018, and 4A 2nd Runner-up in 1988.  He has directed 131 productions.  Favorites include:  Noises Off, Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me, Brighton Beach Memoirs, Machinal, The Love Song of J. Robert Oppenheimer, The Speed of Darkness, Over the River and Through the Woods, The Chopin Playoffs, and Equus.

CLINIC SCHEDULE

How does it work?

See the Clinic Schedule above, email [email protected] with your choice of open time slots. Each school will have a 2-hour time slot for performance and critique, along with a 1-hour setup time-3 hours total! You will be given the stage 1 hour prior to your 2-hour clinic. Performances by companies will take place in the Champion HS auditorium. Following your company's load-out, your critique will begin in the Black Box theatre. Starting your performance promptly at the designated time is crucial to allow the following school an hour to set up the stage. However, in adherence to UIL rules, performances cannot begin during the 1-hour setup time.
